Pay sugarcane dues to farmers in UP: Jitin Prasada

After the Centre on Thursday announced a relief package to protect the weaker sections of the society from the economic fallout of COVID-19, former Union Minister Jitin Prasada demanded the immediate payment of outstanding sugarcane dues of farmers in Uttar Pradesh.

New Delhi, March 26 After the Centre on Thursday announced a relief package to protect the weaker sections of the society from the economic fallout of COVID-19, former Union Minister Jitin Prasada demanded the immediate payment of outstanding sugarcane dues of farmers in Uttar Pradesh.

Prasada who has been in home quarantine at his ancestral residence in Shahjahanpur after attending a party where coronavirus patient Kanika Kapoor was also a guest, has tweeted that the UP government should pay dues to the farmers.

"When the country is fighting against the corona pandemic thousands of crore rupees are dues of farmers on the mill owners and government should order the owners to pay the dues at earliest."

The Congress leader also asked to ensure the harvesting of the wheat crop and it's purchase by the government immediately.

The UP sugar mills owners have to clear Rs 6,480 crore dues of farmers till September 2019 as per reports.

The Centre on Thursday announced a Rs 170,000 crore relief package to protect the weaker sections of the society from the economic fallout of the coronavirus pandemic.
