Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Indian Chamber of Commerce’s annual plenary session. In his speech he once again emphasized the significance of a self-reliant India. Modi said, that the contribution of ICC towards the development of industries and manufacturing in the east and north-east is historical and commendable. In his speech, the prime minister urged the members of the ICC and said that we have to turn the COVID-19 crisis into an opportunity for creating Atmanirbhar Bharat.  

Modi said that India is fighting multiple challenges with coronavirus (COVID-19), including floods, locust attacks and earthquakes. He said that due to the challenges thrown at us by the COVID-19 each and every Indian citizen is determined to make the country self-reliant. Modi said that the changes made in the APMC Act will help the farmers and villages. He said that the people in the east and north-east India can become the biggest beneficiary of the reforms in the agriculture sector. 

Speaking about Bengal, Modi  said that we have to revive the manufacturing sector in West Bengal and added that this is time for bold investments and not conservative decisions. Modi said that the country is running another mission to make the country free from single-use plastic. It will address the three key things – people, planet and profit. He said that it will especially benefit West Bengal as it will benefit the jute industry here. Modi also said that our technological innovations are based on people-friendly and environment-friendly approach. He mentioned that citizens were saving Rs 19,000 crore annually by using LED bulbs. The prime minister in his speech said that it is time for ICC to set a big target and take bold investments and not conservative decisions.
