Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday said the situation in West Bengal is shocking and accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of providing support to the murderers.

"What is happening today in Bengal can this happen on its own? The government and administration there are providing full support to the murderers, people of one group keep getting killed but nobody knows which group the perpetrators belong to," Bhagwat said at the closing ceremony of the third Sangh Shiksha Varg program here.

This was Bhagwat's first public speech since Prime Minister Narendra Modi formed the government in the Center for the second successive term.

Bhagwat targeted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee by asking her to stop the violence in the state and added that this should not be allowed to happen in any other state in the country.

"Mamata Banerjee should stop the violence in Bengal, the elections are now over. This should not be allowed to happen in any other place in the country. The country is moving forward and is getting stronger but some forces are working to stop its progress," he said.

He said Hindus of the country are getting united and moving forward which means the end of people who do politics of appeasement are numbered and praised the people for choosing wisely in each election.

"Hindus of the nation are progressing and are getting united which means the days of leaders who do politics to please others are numbered. The people of India are learning more with each passing election and are thinking of the country's unity and integrity into mind while making the decision during polls," Bhagwat said.
