Pune: 20-Year-Old Engineering Student Dies by Suicide; Text Message Reveals Abuse by Classmate
A 20-year-old engineering student died by suicide after allegedly facing harassment from her classmate in Pune's Pimpri area. The victim, identified as Sathi Reddy, a third-year student at a local college, jumped from the 15th floor of a building on January 5 around 4:45 p.m.
Initially, police registered the incident as an accidental death. However, further investigation revealed that Sathi had sent a message to a friend before her death, sharing her mobile phone password and contact details of friends. Upon unlocking her phone, Sathi’s family found three voice recordings in which she revealed that she had been subjected to physical and emotional abuse by Pranav Rajendra Dongre, a 20-year-old classmate. In the recordings, Sathi mentioned that she felt forced to end her life due to the harassment.
Sathi's father, Kalugota Venkata Siva Reddy, filed a complaint with the Wakad police, leading to the arrest of Dongre. He has been charged with harassment, and police are continuing their investigation into the case.
