Pune, Maharashtra (April 14, 2025): Three dogs died and six others are in critical condition after an unidentified person allegedly poisoned 12 strays inside the Mahindra Anthia Society premises in Pimpri. The incident reportedly occurred between 10.30 pm on Sunday and 8.30 am on Monday.
Priya Babulal Gugalay, a 41-year-old resident of the society, lodged a complaint at the Sant Tukaramnagar police station on Monday. Based on the complaint, police registered a case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 325 and section 11(1)(C) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960.
According to police, the Mahindra Anthia Society is known as a high-end residential complex. During the late-night hours, an unknown person allegedly fed a poisonous substance to 12 dogs, resulting in the death of three and leaving six others in a serious condition.
The incident triggered outrage among local animal lovers and activists, who rushed to the police station to demand action. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to identify the person responsible, said Senior Police Inspector Vanita Dhumal of Sant Tukaramnagar police station.
