Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad on High Alert After Nagpur Violence
Heavy police deployed in the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad area of Maharashtra on Wednesday, March 19, after Nagpur violence that took place on Monday night in which several vehicles and shops were set on blaze in the city in clashes between two communities over Aurangzeb.
Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has issued an alert in the city and surrounding areas, urging citizens not to believe rumours. He has also warned strict action against those spreading rumours on social media. Meanwhile, the Pimpri-Chinchwad police have also warned citizens not to believe on rumours.
Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey ordered the maintenance of law and order in the city and warned of strict action against those spreading misinformation on social media.
Minister Yogesh Ramdas Kadam said, "The incident that occurred in Nagpur is very serious. Keeping its gravity in mind, any action taken will be the strictest possible action..."
