The cops in Pune recently arrested a gang of three including a minor who robbed people during their morning walks across the city. The police have identified two individuals as Sumit alias Diamond Raju Awsare, 19, and Abhishek alias Kanhole Bharat Kandhare, 22. Both of them are from Kothrud area of Pune.

Police said that on December 24, 2024, a 50-year-old Kothrud businessman went for a morning walk. Around 5:20 AM, two young people stole his Rs. 1.61 lakh gold chain while he was walking along the D P Road in Erandwane. They then fled the scene on a motorbike.

A similar case from Kothrud was reported again on February 9 this year. Three youngsters tried to rob a 24-year-old man. In his complaint he mentioned that three robbers were pointing a sharp weapon at him while he was taking a walk in the morning in the same area of  D P Road in Erandwane.

The officials got CCTV footage from different locations and checked over 200 videos. After getting all the clues from policeman Dhiraj Pawar, on February 15, a team led by inspector Anil Mane, and sub-inspector Ganesh Dikshit apprehended the two accused Awsare and Kandhare from Kishindha Nagar in Kothrud.

After interrogating the two accused, police learnt that two more people were involved with them in the December robbery.

A minor who is suspected of being engaged in the robberies has also been taken into custody, according to Senior Police Inspector Sunita Rokade, who is leading the investigation. Police are looking for criminal Sagar Raste, a history sheeter who seems to be the gang's head and targets victims on early walks, said Rokade.

According to the authorities, a woman in the Chaturshringi police station's jurisdiction was also robbed by the same gang.

The accused has given the police a motorbike, a sharp weapon and a gold chain. Investigations are ongoing.
