Pune, Maharashtra (February 25, 2025): A 22-year-old man was brutally murdered near Datt Temple in Shastrinagar, Kothrud, late Sunday night. The attackers fired a gunshot and repeatedly struck him with swords and sharp weapons, police said.
The victim, identified as Gaurav Avinash Thorat, was a resident of Maratha Mahasangh Society in Shastrinagar. Kothrud police have registered a case against several accused, including Dinesh Bhalerao, 27, Sohel Sayyed, 24, Rakesh Sawant, 24, Sahil Wakde, 25, Bandya Nagtilak, 18, Lakhan Shirol, 27, and Aniket Umap, 22.
According to the police, complainant Sagar Vasant Kasbe, 47, reported that Thorat was sitting with his friends near the temple when Sohel Sayyed arrived and fired at him over an old dispute. The bullet missed, but the other accused then attacked Thorat with swords and sharp weapons. He suffered severe injuries to his head, neck, abdomen, and legs and died on the spot.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
