Unexpected rain, warmer temperatures, and a lack of cold weather have significantly damaged the Hapus mango crop. Many blossoms fell off too early, cutting production in half and causing prices to skyrocket. Ratnagiri and Devgad Hapus mangoes now cost between Rs 1500 and Rs 2000 per dozen, making them a very expensive treat this, Gudi Padwa.

Mangoes are eagerly anticipated each summer, typically appearing in late February and surging in March, with bulk purchases around Gudi Padwa. However, this year's market supply is lower than usual. While March normally sees 4,000-5,000 boxes arriving daily from Konkan, only 700-1,000 boxes are currently arriving, with increased supply expected next month.

Here are the prices of mangoes this year compared to last year:

March 2024:   Rs. 800 to 1200 (Per Dozen)

March 2025: Rs. 1500 to 2000 (Per Dozen)

The prices this year are significantly higher than usual for Padwa.

Climate change has reduced mango production this year, leading to significantly higher prices around Gudi Padwa. Market arrivals are down 30-40% compared to last year, with prices now ranging from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 2,000 per dozen, up from Rs. 500-700.

Daily arrivals have also plummeted from 4,000-5,000 boxes to 1,000-3,000. According to Mango Trader Yuvraj Kachi, "Traders will face stiff competition selling Ratnagiri mangoes this year due to 30% lower arrivals and rising prices. Convincing customers will be challenging, with current market prices for four to seven dozen boxes ranging from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 8,000."
