Pune, Maharashtra (March 12, 2025): A man allegedly set 13 motorcycles on fire in Pimpri-Chinchwad after his mother refused to give him money for drugs. The accused, identified as Swapnil Shivsharan Pawar, was arrested after CCTV footage showed him committing the crime.
The incident took place at Moraya Kshitij Building in Pimpri, where Swapnil lives. CCTV footage captured him setting fire to a parked motorcycle. The flames spread quickly, destroying 13 vehicles.
Residents alerted police, who registered a case and took him into custody.
Mother Says Son Has Been Addicted for 10 Years
According to police, Pawar has been battling addiction for a decade. On the day of the incident, he demanded money from his mother to buy drugs. When she refused, he threatened to burn the parked vehicles. Shortly after, he followed through on his threat and set them ablaze.
Pawari’s mother revealed that he has been addicted to alcohol and cannabis. Despite being sent to rehab three times, his addiction remained. She also said he demands ₹2,000 daily and had previously tried to attack her with a koyta.
