Pune, Maharashtra (April 9, 2025): Nationalist Congress Party – Sharadchandra Pawar (NCP-SP) MP Supriya Sule ended her hunger strike on Wednesday after officials assured that road construction near Shri Kshetra Baneshwar in Bhor taluka would begin on May 2. Sule had launched the protest at 10 a.m. outside the Pune district collector’s office, demanding urgent repairs on the dilapidated road from Baneshwar Phata to the Forest Department gate. She had vowed to continue the strike until authorities provided a confirmed start date for the project.
District officials met Sule at the protest site and informed her that the estimated cost of the project was Rs 50 lakh. They assured her that the funds had been approved by the District Planning Committee and that work would begin before the monsoon. Initially, officials proposed a May 9 start date, but after discussions, they agreed to commence work on May 2.
Sule had earlier insisted that work should begin within 15 days. The district council’s chief executive officer had sent a letter stating that construction would start within a month. However, after negotiations, a middle ground was reached with the May 2 timeline.
During the protest, Sule criticized authorities for delays and said that roads are often built overnight when ministers visit. She told officials to either provide a confirmed date or leave after having tea. Following the assurance, she called off the hunger strike but warned that further delays would not be tolerated.
