A Pune court on Wednesday granted bail to Gaurav Ahuja, who was arrested in a public obscenity case. Ahuja’s friend, Bhagyesh Oswal, had earlier received conditional bail on a ₹50,000 surety bond, while Ahuja remained in custody.
The incident occurred when 25-year-old Gaurav Ahuja, under the influence of alcohol, stopped his luxury BMW in the middle of the road at a traffic signal in Yerawada's Shastrinagar and openly urinated on the divider. When confronted by locals, he allegedly exposed himself to them before speeding off. A passerby recorded the act on a mobile phone, and the video quickly went viral on the internet.
Yerwada police arrested both Ahuja and Oswal and booked them under various sections. They were presented before the court and sent to judicial custody.
They then applied for bail. Police sought more time to present their case against Ahuja, while Oswal’s lawyer, Advocate Pushkar Durge, argued that Oswal had a minimal role in the incident. The FIR stated that Oswal remained in the car and did not urinate in public. Durge also assured the court that Oswal would cooperate with the investigation Accepting these arguments, the court granted Oswal conditional bail. Following this, Ahuja’s bail plea was heard, and the court has now granted him bail.
