Pune Police Crack Down on Traffic Violations During Holi, Over 400 Booked for Drunk Driving
Pune Police’s traffic branch took action against 402 people for drunk driving during Holi and Dhulivandan celebrations as part of a special drive to ensure safety on the roads. Officers checked 8,552 vehicles and cracked down on traffic violators across the city.
Under the guidance of Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Sharma, and Additional Commissioner Manoj Patil, Pune Police set up 90 checkpoints across the city on Friday, March 14. The goal was to curb reckless driving and maintain a safe environment during the festivities.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Amol Zhende, the operation involved all 37 traffic divisions and local police stations. Officers focused on violations such as triple-seat riding, wrong-side driving, and driving under the influence of alcohol. A total of 6,118 cases were registered, and 386 vehicles were seized. The police imposed fines amounting to ₹50.94 lakh.
