Pune: Traffic Jams Likely as Baba Bhide Bridge to Remain Closed for Over 45 Days for Metro Work

Pune, Maharashtra (April 18, 2025): The Baba Bhide Bridge will remain closed for the next one-and-a-half months (45 Days). The closure, which began today, is part of the ongoing construction for the Deccan Gymkhana Metro Station bridge. This unexpected shutdown is expected to cause significant traffic congestion, especially for two-wheeler commuters who frequently use the bridge.

The bridge connects key areas of the city, including Sadashiv Peth, Narayan Peth, Deccan, Junglee Maharaj Road, and Fergusson Road. Commuters will now need to find alternative routes, which could lead to further traffic disruptions on nearby roads.

The closure is due to work on the foot overbridge for the Deccan Gymkhana metro station. Although signboards have been placed by the Pune Metro in the area, no prior notice was given to commuters about the closure. This lack of communication has left many residents unaware of the situation and struggling to find alternative routes.

The road in the riverbed, which is heavily used by bikers, was considered a convenient option for many. Its sudden closure without clear signs at the start of the road has caused problems for citizens.
