Pune Water Bill Scam: PMC Alerts Citizens Against Fake Disconnection Messages
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued a public warning after receiving multiple complaints from residents about fraudulent messages threatening to disconnect water connections due to unpaid bills. The civic body has clarified that it has not sent any such messages and urged citizens to remain vigilant. Over the past few days, several Pune residents reported receiving messages claiming their water supply would be cut off if outstanding bills were not paid immediately. These messages often contain suspicious links and originate from unknown mobile numbers.
Nandkishore Jagtap, Head of the Water Supply Department at PMC, confirmed that no such messages are being sent by the municipal authorities. “Citizens are advised not to fall prey to such deceptive messages or engage in any online transactions with unknown individuals or numbers,” Jagtap said. He further warned the public not to click on links in these messages and to verify any payment-related information through official PMC channels only.
