Pune Weather Update: April's Intense Heatwave Pushes Temperatures to 43 degree C

Pune has been experiencing intense heat for the past few days, and Pune residents are fed up with the unbearable heat that is scorching their bodies. Looking at the history so far, the month of ‘April’ has always been a ‘heaty’ month for Pune residents. In the last ten years, the maximum temperature in Pune in the month of April has remained within the forty-degree range, with the only exception being 2021. In 2019, the highest temperature ever recorded in Pune was 43 degrees Celsius. This year, in the second week of April itself, Lohegaon recorded 43.2 degrees Celsius, while Pune’s temperature was 40 degrees Celsius.

Pune was once known as a place of cool air. Pune used to be the first choice of retired officers and employees. But Pune has undergone rapid urbanization and Pune’s temperature has changed. The sun has started to burn in the city surrounded by a concrete jungle. Due to the intense rays of the sun, citizens are also avoiding going out of their homes in the afternoon. In this, even in the house, the hot air coming out from the air conditioner and fan has made it impossible for Punekars to sit at home. When we review the maximum temperature data in Pune for the last ten years, the temperature has remained high, except for the exception of 39.6 degrees Celsius in 2021. In 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, 2023, the maximum temperature was up to 40 degrees. While in 2022 and 2024, the temperature was 41.8 degrees Celsius. This year, the month of April has also been ‘hot’ for Punekars. The maximum temperature was recorded in the first week of April. Although the temperature is decreasing slightly due to the cloudy weather in the city, Punekars are experiencing a rise in temperature by one to two degrees again. The sky is likely to remain clear in the next two days, and the temperature is expected to remain stable at 40 degrees.
