Pune, Maharashtra (April 12, 2025): The Maharashtra Medical Council has issued a notice to Dr Sushrut Ghaisas, the former consulting gynaecologist at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, following the death of a seven-month pregnant woman, Tanisha Bhise, who was allegedly denied admission due to non-payment of a Rs 10 lakh advance.
Last week, the MMC sent a notice to Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital asking for details about the medical team involved in the treatment of the patient. In response, the hospital confirmed that Dr. Ghaisas was among the doctors who treated the woman.
Based on the hospital's reply, the MMC issued a formal notice to Dr. Ghaisas. According to MMC administrator Dr. Vinky Rughvani, the doctor has been asked to submit all relevant information by Sunday. Following the submission of the details, Dr. Ghaisas will be called for a hearing at the MMC office on Tuesday.
Notably, Dr Sushrut Ghaisas has resigned from Dinanath Mangeshkar Hospital. The hospital accepted his resignation after facing criticism and concerns about its reputation. The administration confirmed receiving his resignation.
What Happened?
Tanisha Bhise was rushed to Dinanath Mangeshkar Hospital after experiencing labor pains. Her family alleges that the hospital demanded Rs 10 lakh before beginning treatment. The total estimated cost was reportedly Rs 20 lakh. Her family initially offered Rs 3 lakh upfront and assured the hospital they would arrange the rest. Despite this, hospital staff allegedly refused to admit her and suggested transferring her to Sassoon Hospital if they could not afford the charges.
On March 29, Tanisha Bhise died due to lack of treatment.
Her family claims the delay cost her life. Bhise was the wife of Sushant Bhise, personal assistant to BJP MLC Amit Gorakhe.
