Royal Challengers Bengaluru were once again trolled on social media after a shaky batting performance against Punjab Kings in a rain-shortened IPL 2025 match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday. The match was reduced to 14 overs per side due to persistent rain. RCB were reeling at 42 for seven at one stage as Punjab's bowlers dominated the first innings. Marco Jansen took two wickets for just 10 runs and used the conditions to trouble the batters with bounce and movement. The top-order collapse reignited memories of RCB’s infamous 49 all out against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2017. Soon after, “RCB 49 all out” began trending on social media, with fans posting memes and jokes about the team’s poor start.
Tim David stood firm and played a counter-attacking knock to take RCB to a respectable total. He remained unbeaten on 50 runs from 26 balls. His innings included clean hitting and helped his team avoid further embarrassment.
Despite David’s effort, RCB could only manage 95 for nine. Punjab's bowling was led by Arshdeep Singh, who took two wickets for 23 runs. Yuzvendra Chahal also claimed two wickets for just 11 runs.
Brief scores:Royal Challengers Bengaluru: 95 for 9 in 14 overs (Tim David 50 not out; Arshdeep Singh 2-23, Yuzvendra Chahal 2-11, Marco Jansen 2-10).
