A significant step towards water transport connectivity has been taken as work on the Dombivli-Mothagaon water transport project officially commenced. The groundbreaking ceremony for the jetty, which will facilitate the upcoming roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) ferry service, was conducted with much enthusiasm in the presence of Shiv Sena (UBT) Kalyan district chief Dipesh Pundalik Mhatre. Local residents and party workers attended the event in large numbers.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mhatre stated, "The feasibility of the Ro-Ro boat service was first assessed in 2018 alongside the then guardian minister and MP. Since then, I have consistently followed up with various departments to get this project off the ground. The Maharashtra Maritime Board has prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) worth approximately ₹1,000 crore, out of which ₹80 crore has been sanctioned in the initial phase. Of this, ₹22 crore has been allocated for the Dombivli-Mothagaon jetty. It is a moment of great satisfaction to witness the commencement of this work today."

Once completed, the Ro-Ro service will allow passengers to travel with their vehicles from Dombivli to Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Vasai, and Virar via the waterway. This service is expected to save time and fuel costs while also significantly reducing vehicular pollution. Considered a revolutionary initiative in transportation, the project is set to boost the maritime transport sector.

By connecting Dombivli, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Mumbai, Vasai, and Virar through waterways, this ambitious project aims to make daily commuting faster, more convenient, and environmentally friendly. Mhatre expressed confidence that the project would mark a milestone in Dombivli’s development journey.
