Thane Congress Questions ₹2,700 Crore Waste Management Tender, Demands Transparency
The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has issued a Rs 2,700 crore tender for waste collection and transportation over the next ten years. Thane Congress has raised concerns regarding the financial justification of this amount and the tendering process. Party president Vikrant Chavan met TMC Commissioner Saurabh Rao, suggesting that the civic body should recruit technically qualified officers for waste management instead of relying on outsourcing.
Chavan also pointed out that TMC has yet to clear ₹25 crore in pending dues to Thane Clean Environment Pvt. Ltd., which handles waste processing and compost production. He alleged that the consultants appointed for this tender have financial ties with Sumit Facilities and JV Enviro, and that the tender conditions were structured accordingly.
Thane Congress has demanded that the tender be scrapped and reissued on an annual basis. Party spokesperson Rahul Pingle warned that if their concerns are not addressed, they will stage a protest in front of the municipal corporation.
