A 21-year-old youth was murdered following an altercation that occurred at a haldi ceremony held at a relative's house in Kajgaon in Shahapur taluka of Thane district. Police have arrested two juvenile suspects in connection with the case. The deceased has been identified as Balu Wagh (21). He had attended the haldi ceremony at his relative's residence but failed to return home. Consequently, his family filed a missing person report with the police. While searching for him, authorities discovered his body in the Bhatsa River within the Kasgaon jurisdiction on March 28th. Police questioned Balu's uncle, who was present at the haldi ceremony. He informed them that Balu had an argument with two boys during the event. Upon further questioning, the two juvenile suspects confessed to the murder. They revealed that on March 25th, around 11:30 PM, an argument ensued after Balu accidentally bumped into them while dancing. Subsequently, they took Balu behind the pandal and assaulted him. One of the boys stabbed Balu in the neck with a knife. They then placed his body on a motorcycle and, in an attempt to destroy evidence, disposed of it in the Bhatsa River, which flows through the Kasgaon area.
Three days later, on March 28, an unidentified male body was found floating in the river, in the Vajra power project area near Kasgaon. A team from Shahapur police recovered the body and sent it for postmortem to the Shahapur sub-district hospital. The autopsy report confirmed homicide, revealing multiple stab wounds as the cause of death. Based on the findings, Shahapur police registered a murder case on Friday and launched an investigation. “We gathered strong evidence linking the two juveniles to the crime. We also tracked their movements and questioned local witnesses before detaining them on Saturday,” said Thakur. The accused showed no remorse for their actions, he said. They were presented before the Juvenile Justice Board on Saturday and were remanded to a correctional home in Bhiwandi. Police have apprehended both juveniles and have registered a case.
