The peak power demand in the national capital has touched season's highest at 5,268 MW on intervening night of Sunday and Monday and was up by 56 per cent over April, the BSES said, adding that the discoms are ready to meet Delhi's demand.Delhi's peak power demand clocked 5,268 MW the season's highest on intervening night of Sunday and Monday, BSES Delhi said."In fact, it was marginally more than the peak power demand (5,094 MW) recorded on May 24, 2019. Also, this is the first time this month, Delhi's peak power demand has crossed last year's peak on any given day. The peak power demand in May 2019 was 6,461 MW, recorded on May 31," it says.When compared to the peak power demand of April, that of May has already increased by 56 per cent."The peak power demand in April was 3,362 MW and in May till date it is 5,268 MW," the BSES added.It said that the BSES discoms are fully geared-up to meet Delhi's summer demand."On their part, BRPL and BYPL successfully met the peak power demand of 2,448 MW and 1,227 MW, respectively. Last year, Delhi's peak power demand had clocked 7,409 MW. In BRPL's area, it was 3,211 MW and 1,686 MW."It also said that arrangements have been firmed up by the BSES discoms to source adequate electricity to meet the power demand of over 44 lakh consumers."These arrangements include long term PPAs and banking arrangements with other states. In case of unforeseen contingencies because of low generation and outages in power plants, the discoms will purchase short-term power from the exchange."Being in essential services, BSES is always geared-up to ensure quality and reliable power supply to its consumers, it said."We are closely watching the evolving Coronavirus situation in the national Capital and taking all appropriate measures to ensure reliable power supply to our consumers without compromising the safety of our employees."Amid the lockdown, the power demand in the national capital has seen a drastic drop of about 50 per cent, however, on Sunday, it crossed the 5,000 MW mark for the first time in the season, data from State Load Dispatch Centre said.
