Aurangabad, July 9:The Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) has geared up to tackle the possible third wave of Coronavirus. As a precautionary measure, the GMCH has the capacity to store 56 kilolitres (KL) of liquid oxygen, but it has ordered three more tanks of 10KL capacity each. The tanks will benefit patients undergoing treatment in the Department of Cardio-Vascular Thoracic Surgery (CVTS), Medicine, and Surgery. Besides, the hospital administration has 450 jumbo oxygen cylinders in its store, but it had demanded an additional stock of 1,000 more jumbo oxygen cylinders so as to tackle the emergency situation.It may be noted that the GMCH Dean Dr. Kanan Yelikar reviewed the preparations made by the hospital to tackle the third wave today. While speaking to the newspaper, Dr. Yelikar said," I reviewed the total capacity of oxygen storage in the GMCH and its utility by various departments. The hospital has two PSA plants, which generate 2.5 metric tonnes (MT) of oxygen through the ambient air. There are 450 jumbo oxygen cylinders with GMCH and an additional stock of 1,000 more have been made for convenience. The process of purchasing three tanks to store liquid oxygen is also underway. There are 998 beds equipped with oxygen in the hospital."The dean also reviewed the utility of oxygen by the Department of Nephrology. The GMCH medical superintendent Dr. Suresh Harbade, Dr. Avinash Lamb, Dr. Preeti Birajdar, and engineer KM Syed were also present on the occasion.Dr. Yelikar elaborated, " Presently one ward is functioning in the super-speciality block building and 40 infected patients are undergoing treatment in it. There is a capacity of 250 beds in the building, but 415 beds are available. Besides, the arrangement of 60-beds has been made for paediatrics in the building. It includes 25-ICU beds. All the arrangements have been made to tackle the emergency situation which may arise due to possible third wave."
