Aurangabad, Feb 2:Government of Australia granted an innovation patent to Dr Karbhari Kale, a professor from Computer Science and Information Technology (CSIT) Department of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu) for his innovation ‘Method for Automated Endmember Identification, Selection and Extraction from Hyperspectral Imagery.’The innovation is very useful for the accurate analysis of hyperspectral images taken through satellite. Mahesh Solankar and Dhananjay Nalawade assisted him in the research.The research will also help study clay test, water quality, types of crop, and their condition from space.Hyperspectral imaging (HSI) is a technique that analyses a wide spectrum of light instead of just assigning primary colors (red, green, blue) to each pixel.Hyperspectral imaging produces several reflectance values for a single point on the surface of the Earth, one for each wavelength, instead of only the single optical pixel that one would obtain from a standard photograph.Therefore, these spectra can be used to identify the materials located at certain pixels. Dr Kale also published seven patents in Indian Patent Journal.Vice-chancellor Dr Pramod Yeole, Pro-VC Shyam Shirsath, CSIT department Dr Sachin Deshmukh congratulated Dr Kale on his achievement.
