Aurangabad, May 2:A fire broke out in a water filter spare part shop in Vishalnagar in Garkheda area and a storeroom of the Department of Biotechnology in the MGM Engineering College area on Sunday, causing losses to the tune of lakhs of rupees. Water purification materials worth about Rs 15 lakh from the water filter spare part shop were burnt in the fire. Firefighters rushed to the spot and doused the blaze.Prakash Vibhute owns a shop named ‘Pure Water Appliances’ at Vishalnagar in the Garkheda area. Water purification spare parts and other materials are sold in this shop. The shop was closed due to lockdown. The land owner, Adv Arvind Bagul, spotted smoke blowing from the shop premises on Sunday morning, at around 2.30 am. He immediately informed the fire brigade, police and the owner Vibhute. Firefighting squad rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control. By then, materials in the shop were reduced to ashes. Upon learning of the incident, Assistant Inspector Ghanshyam Sonawane of Pundalikanagar Police Station and his team also rushed to the spot. The incident has been registered at Pundalikanagar police station.Similarly, fire broke out on the store room on the fourth floor of the Chemical Engineering Department on the MGM Engineering College campus on Sunday at around 9 am. The fire information was reported to the fire brigade by the security guards of the college. Chief Fire Officer R K Sure, Sharad Ghateshahi, Sanjay Kulkarni, Ashok Khandekar, S K Bhagat, Isaac Sheikh, Dinesh Mungse, Deepak Gadekar, Chhagan Salamabad, Ajay Kolhe and others rushed to the spot and gained control over the fire after the strenuous efforts of about three hours.In all, three fire tenders tried to gain control over the the fire, but due to various chemicals, the flames increased. Several documents were destroyed in the fire. Fortunately, no casualty was reported as the department was closed due to lockdown. The reason of the cause of the fire was not known. The incident has been reported to the CIDCO police station. The losses to the tune of around Rs 3 crores have been incurred, informed the sources.
