Aurangabad, March 17:The Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) administration has landed into worry as its 30 resident doctors, and 10-12 nurses are reported as Covid-19 infected in the last 15 days. Meanwhile, the hospital is facing a shortage of staff and has to treat the Covid-19 and non-Covid patients with the available staff.The GMCH is witnessing a rush in the admission of Coronavirus infected patients for the past many days. The resident doctors and nurses play a vital role in the treatment of these patients. However, the administration is pushed to worry when these GMCH warriors got infected. The senior doctors have also expressed their concern in this regard. On the other hand, private hospitals are also facing an acute shortage of workforce.MARD president Dr Abbasaheb Tidke said," A total of 30 resident doctors Coronavirus infected in the past 15 days. They play a vital role in the treatment of Covid-19 patients. The hospital administration should immediately appoint doctors on a contractual basis considering the emergency situation."Adds the executive president of Maharashtra Government Nurses Federation, Indumati Thorat, " Had the posts of nurses got filled on time, there would not have been a shortage of nurses as it is has emerged in the present pandemic situation. The posts should have been filled up every year. The shortage of workforce has emerged as around 10-12 nurses are detected as Covid-19 positives and are undergoing treatment."Private Hospitals face same situationThe president of Marathwada Hospital Association, Dr Himanshu Gupta, said, " There is a severe inconvenience of manpower in the private hospitals. There are many Covid-19 and non-Covid patients. The issue would not be resolved by just increasing the bed capacities. Each doctor is sent on three days leave after serving Covid-19 patients for 10 days. He resumes his resumes serves in the ward of non-Covid patients for the next 10 days. There is a dire need for doctors, nurses and fourth class employees. The manpower could be arranged from the nursing colleges in the region."
