Aurangabad, June 10:The state government has issued directives to the regional transport office (RTO) which allows people to obtain a learner's licence by sitting for a test from home using an Aadhaar-based authentication mechanism. Hence now those wanting a learner's driving license will soon be relieved of the hassle of going to the RTO office for a learning license and taking the test. You can even get a learning license at home.For the past several years, citizens had to take help from agents to get their work done at the RTO office. Whether it is learning, permanent license or other vehicle related work, the drivers have to pay double the government fee to these agents. But the introduction of online mechanism have been a relief to motorists. So far, special permits, temporary vehicle licenses, vehicle tax payments have been made available online. There is no need to go to the RTO office for an application. Now, taking a step further, citizens will now get the learning license issued without going to the RTO office. The facility is expected to be operational by June 30.Online application and testCitizens can apply online for a learning license from the same website that is currently used to make an appointment. Candidates will have to register their Aadhaar number on the website. The name, address and signature will be available to the RTO department from the Aadhaar database. The applicant can take the learning license test from home. If 60 per cent answers given in the test are correct, the learner's license will be issued. The applicant can then take a print out of the license. The RTO office is expected to receive more information next week.Can also go to the RTO officeThose who do not have Aadhaar or do not want to take the exam online can go to the RTO office and take the exam. But as the number of computers, laptops and smartphone users is high, it is expected that the number of people opting for the learning licenses test sitting at home will definitely increase.New vehicle registration from distributorsAfter the sale of the new vehicle, the inspectors of the RTO office had to go to the showroom and inspect the vehicle. Only then is the vehicle registered at the RTO office. But now there will be no need for the inspectors to go to the vehicle showroom for vehicle registration. Distributors will be able to get the registrations done on their own. Officials of the RTO office said that the process is likely to start by June 30.Started making changesDrivers can print their own learning license after passing a test online. Also inspectors will not have to go to the showroom to register a new vehicle. Some changes are being made for this. No further details have been released yet. But the process is likely to start next week or by June 30, said Sanjay Metrewar, regional transport officer.
